Kindle or Nook?

Trying to decide if you should invest in an Amazon Kindle, or a Barnes & Noble Nook?

Price for basic: Kindle 114$   Nook: 139$
Battery life: both claim 2 months

Do dog chews, teeth marks deter performance? Do not try this at home! Neighbor reported that his Nook works perfectly, with deep dog bite indentations, and a chunk of plastic chewed off lower left corner. Waiting to hear how Kindle survives dog chews.

Checking the New York Times Paperback Row Column, from Sunday, August 12, all books listed, below, were on eBook:

Memory Wall: paper 14$  Kindle and Nook: $14.99
Lives Like Loaded Guns: Emily Dickenson and her Family's Fued: paper 18$; Kindle and Nook, 9.99
Cookbook Collector: paper 15, Kindle and Nook 9.99
Dreyfus: paper 28, Kindle and Nook 14.99
Where I Live: Poetry of Maxine Kumin: 16.95; not available on Kindle or Nook
Tenth Parallel: Dispatches from the Fault Line Between Christianity & Islam: paper 16; Kindle and Nook 9.99
Death is Not an Option: paper 14.95; Kindle 8.55; Nook 14.37
The Only Game in Town: Sportswriting from the New Yorker: paper 15; Kindle and Nook, 13.99

As you can see, from the above, prices and availability are comparable, with Nook priced higher, in only one instance.

What I like about Nook, is that it comes from a bricks and mortar place, where I can browse books, read a chapter, from a book, I'm considering, free in the store.

Am doing more research. Will update shortly!
